TOUCH THE SOUND
What if the human body is capable of storing music like vinyl?
What if our body became the acoustic container of our memory ?
If we use our body as an instrument,
will different people have different sound quality ?
Will larger people sound much nicer than petite people?
What would emotion sound like ?
These are the question that lead to Touch the Sound, Lingjing’s final project for her MA degree in RCA.
The project stems from a collaborative workshop with YAMAHA called 'RESONANCE'. Touch the Sound is a series of project consisting of bespoke devices for an autistic child, Live System for dance performance, artistic film. All of them are realized and made believe based on the technology of human capacitance sensing and motion tracking.
/First Prototyping/- sensing human's capacitance with normal electricity wires
/Live Performance/- Dancers give a short demo of our working prototype in front of guests from YAMAHA and audience from RCA

The Technology:
- One Sensor Mat - Sensing Human Capacitance
- A Motion Tracking Camera - Tracks 2 Persons' Movements in 3 Dimensions, Which then Modifies and Manipulates the Sound Based on Their Gestures.
- A Music Palette Made by Musician/ Composer
- Sound from the Music Palette will be Triggered Based on Physical Contact and the Position of the People.
The Experience:
It opens up a new dimension of expressing movement and sound, an unconventional experience for the audience.
"The music is an extra layer of information, giving us aural information about where our body ends and where others' body start. The music sparked when two bodies meet really influent the emotion of our later dance."
